Last weekend many people in the UAE felt something we hadn’t felt in a while.
Our nervous systems got a shock.

And I’ll be honest.
For a Capricorn like me — someone who likes structure, planning and predictability — that kind of moment hits hard. I don’t particularly enjoy surprises.

But something interesting happens here in the UAE: The fear cycle only survives for a few days.
Not because people ignore reality.
But because this place has built something stronger than speculation.
Community.

Neighbours check on each other.
Friends meet for coffee.
WhatsApp groups light up.
Teams ask colleagues if everyone is okay.
Everyone encourages everyone to go back to normal.
It’s tribal.
Social contact regulates the nervous system far better than any headline ever could.

And there is another element that is often overlooked from the outside.
Leadership.
In moments of uncertainty, the tone at the top matters enormously. Calm, clarity and confidence are contagious too. When leaders communicate with composure and purpose, people tend to mirror that behaviour.

Every time the same pattern appears here in the UAE.

It’s one of the reasons why so many of us chose to build our lives here.
Does fear appear? Of course.
But fear doesn’t run the system.
Community does.
Fear isolates people.
Community reconnects them.
And in moments like these, that difference matters more than ever.
